Charles Manners, 4th Duke of Rutland died in County Dublin, Ireland on 24 October 1787 at age thirty-three after serving as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 12 February 1784. A young duke burdened by his father's debts and his own gambling, he may have carried that weight into a strange foreign city, where duty and desire collided until the body gave way.
