Charles FitzGerald, 4th Duke of Leinster, was born in County Dublin, Ireland on 30 March 1819. He became a prominent Anglo-Irish peer and politician, serving as High Sheriff of Kildare in 1843 and Member of Parliament for Kildare from 1847 to 1852. In 1874 he succeeded his father as Duke, inheriting vast estates in Counties Kildare and Meath before dying at Carton House in 1887.
