Ceremonial enclosure in Carns,carrowgarve (roscommon By.),lismurtagh (castlereagh By.) is a ceremonial enclosure in Carns,carrowgarve (roscommon By.),lismurtagh (castlereagh By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the highest point of the Carnfree ridge, where a subcircular grass-covered area measures 85 metres east-west and 75.5 metres north-south. Low scarps define its boundary, while a central cairn and northern fosse traces mark its ceremonial character. The nearby road veers east to avoid the site, which remains partly quarried and overlain by field walls.
On a rock-outcrop rise at the E end and the highest point of the broad WNW-ESE Carnfree ridge. Subcircular grass-covered area with rock outcrop (dims. 85m E-W; 75.5m N-S) defined by low scarps (H 0.3m), with traces of a fosse (Wth of top 4m; D 0.2m) at N. Cairn (RO028-069001-) is at the centre. The road (RO028-062----) veers to the E to avoid the enclosure, which is partly quarried, especiall at E and ovrlain by N-S and E-W field walls. Limited geophysical survey failed to cofirm its existence (Waddell et al. 2009, 119). Mound (RO028-251----) is just outside it at SE.
