Cheddar Gorge caves, including this one, were formed by the dissolution of limestone through acidic water over millennia, typical of karst landscapes in the Mendips. The area has significant archaeological importance, with human remains and artifacts dating back to the Mesolithic period found in nearby Cheddar Gorge.
