What is recorded here

Ballymaglancy Cave cuts seven hundred metres through Carboniferous limestone west of Cong, protecting lesser horseshoe bats in darkness rather than inviting tourists into its chambers. The townland name points to the Clancy or Glancy family, while Pollwalter preserves a forgotten mill pond beside the entrance. People may have followed water into that passage long before maps existed, hearing bats scatter above their heads.

Within the NW quadrant of the interior of a rath (GA106-080----). No trace of this Man-made underground passage is visible. It may have been filled in and the low mound visible may mark its site. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 4 January 2018
