One of four openings cut into a limestone quarry-face in County Cork, this man-made passage sits in the north-west quadrant of a ringfort with no visible surface trace. Coleman excavated it in 1942 and found a single habitation layer containing iron, bronze, worked bone, worked stone, bird bones, fish shells, charcoal and animal remains. Those remains suggest people kept livestock, hunted or foraged, cooked or crafted beside a fire, and returned often enough for ordinary days to accumulate in the dark.
