This bronze commemorative plaque records: The Old Sally Port. From this place naval heroes innumerable have embarked to fight their countrys battles. Near this spot Catherine of Braganza landed in state, May 14 1662 previous to her marriage with Charles II at the Domus Dei a week later.
Catherine of Braganza was the Queen consort of England, Scotland, and Ireland as the wife of King Charles II; her marriage brought Bombay and Tangier to Britain and contributed to Anglo-Portuguese alliances.
