What is recorded here
Cathal Goulding was born in north Dublin in 1923 into a house where republican blood ran thick, his father and uncle having fought in the Easter Rising before blacklists stripped them of honest work. He carried that inherited fire into the IRA, sitting sixteen years in prison cells and later steering the movement away from guns and toward socialist politics, a pivot that split the organization but widened its reach. He died in Dublin in 1998, still believing that true freedom required feeding the hungry as much as resisting the occupier.
