Castlehill Fort anchored the Antonine Wall during the reign of Antoninus Pius, hosting the 20th 6th legion in East Dunbartonshire. Roman soldiers likely watched the mist roll over the valley from that summit, marking their march with distance slabs that still bear the legion’s name. Today a circular plantation of beech trees holds the memory of those walls, inviting visitors to imagine the footsteps and fires that once lived beneath the leaves.
