Castlehaven is a prehistoric to early Medieval shell midden in Highland, Scotland, where layers of discarded shells mark long human presence beside the sea. The same coast also holds a promontory fort with ditches and a turf-covered mound, suggesting the place served both sustenance and defence. People may have eaten, lived, and guarded this narrow neck of land before the grass and whins swallowed most of the work.
