Castlefish is a vanished castle in County Kildare, claimed in local memory for Admiral Fish, but no trace remained visible by 1986. The name still carries a military edge, as if the land remembered a keeper rather than a farmer. Whatever the building was, it gave up its shape to grass, rain and forgetting.

In 1837, according to the OSL (Herity 2002, 67 (197)), ‘There are in the Townland of Castlefish, the ruins of an old Castle, which belonged, it is said, to Admiral Fish'. No visible surface traces survived in 1986 (SMR file). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 14 May 2013
