Castlecary Mill Farm, Forth and Clyde Canal, East Lock, Lock 18, stands as a post Medieval lock in Falkirk, Scotland, where water and stone still obey the old canal rhythm. The exact position is known within ten metres, yet the chamber itself may remain closed to casual entry. A boat might have paused there at dusk, its keeper listening for the lock gate to groan before releasing fresh water into the basin.
