What is recorded here
Castle, unclassified in Pallas More is a lost castle near the Inny and Rath rivers in County Longford, Ireland. It may have belonged to the O’Ferral family, who held power in southern Longford during the medieval period. The castle has disappeared from ordinary memory, but water, stone and local story may still preserve part of its shape.
Depicted on an early 17th-century map of Shrule barony (BL, Cotton MS Augustus I.ii.26) close to the confluence of the Inny and Rath rivers; its precise location has not been identified. It may have been one of the strongholds of the Clann Murchadha branch of the O’Ferral family who ruled over southern Longford (Verstaten Veach 2010, 58), but see also the unclassified castle (LF023-111----) in the adjoining townland of Pallas Beg. The latter has been locally identified as the possible site of this O’Farrell castle.
