Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Knockpatrick castle stood on Ardpatrick Hill from 1199, sharing its birth year with Askeaton and losing its exact position before modern memory. It passed through O'Nea hands, Trenchard grants and a 1657 colonial holder, yet no wall or gate has survived to show which stone belonged to which master. The hill keeps the castle more honestly than men did: present in name, absent in form, and answerable to no map.
