Killadoughran castle vanished into Westmeath grassland, leaving only a square shadow in the crops and a ruin marked on Larkin’s 1808 map. It may have been a hall, a watchdog tower or a household strongroom for people whose names the land stopped repeating. The church and graveyard still sit nearby, holding what the castle released.

Situated in undulating grassland with a number of low rises in the area marked on the OS 6-inch map. Killadroughan church (WM008-090----) and graveyard (WM008-090001-) 400m to SE. Depicted as a 'Ruin' on Larkin’s 1808 Map of County Westmeath (NLI, MS 46,580). No surface remains visible. Small square crop mark visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph may be the remains of the 'Ruin' marked on Larkin's 1808 map.
