Dromlara Castle in County Limerick still exists only because its stones were swallowed by a later house, denying the ruin a separate identity. In 1606 Morris Hurley of Knocklong held it alongside Kyleduffe, tying two local powers together under one roof. A 1657 survey showed three dwellings beside a medieval road, suggesting the castle remained a working neighbourhood rather than a forgotten shell. Its borders blurred with Kilduff, warning that castle walls did not always match political or personal boundaries.

According to Westropp Dromlara Castle was incorporated into the fabric of a 'modern house' which he did not identify. Westropp (1906-7, 104) recorded the following details about Dromlara Castle; '1606 Morris Hurley of Knocklong held C[astle]. of Dromlara with the C.[astle] of Kyleduffe (Inq. Chan., 29). Described as C.[astle] of Dromlare or Kilduff (lb. 189). See Kilduff [infra, section 99]. Fabric - It is incorporated in the modern house'.
