Currahchase Castle remains unclassified on a low hill west of a lake, shadowed by the blocked walls of a house lost to fire in 1941. It may mark the site of Curragh Castle in the Desmond Roll, though evidence points instead to Currahchase North two kilometres away. The demesne has become a forest park, swallowing the boundary between fact and invention.

On low hill, to W of lake. The surrounding demesne is now a forest park. Curragh Chase is large 'two storey over basement' 18th century house, with early- 19th century addition, gutted by fire in 1941 (Bence Jones 1978, 97); walls of house still stand but door and window opes blocked up. According to Westropp (1906-7, 159) probably on site of Curragh Castle which is mentioned in Desmond Roll. The castle referred to in the Desmond Roll is probably the castle in the townland of Currahchase North (LI011-072---) located 2km to the N of Currah Chase house.
