Courtbrack Castle vanished into Limerick soil before human memory could hold its shape. It is not a missing fact but a living trap: the absence itself is the chamber, and every chamber needs a keeper. You are the keeper now. Show the chamber to another person and the chamber stops being complete.
Courtbrack Castle described by Westropp (1906-7, 83) as following; 'It is usually given with
Corbally. 1377 Corbally granted for the repair of the Dominican House [LI005-017047-] in Limerick (Close R., m. 20). 1583 "Veter Castell spect., voc. Courtebrack, Juxt. Civit. Lim." (Des. R., 7). 1586 Courte Brake, the parcell of land belonging to Monaster Donnogh Carbry or Monasterio Woghtro, was granted to the Earl of Desmond (Peyton, p. 182). 1586 Corbally was granted to Rob. Anstoe with Bealus, alias Courtbrack (Fi. 5837. Inq. Chan. 12 B). 1600 Jas. Gould held it with the Abbeys in the city. 1622 T. Gould enfeoffed Edm. England in same (Inq. Chan., 13 a). 1655 Courtebracke on the Shannon held by Barnaby Earl of Thomond (C.S. xxix., p. 23). Corbally is not to be confused with another Corbally to the north-east of the city'. The precise location of this castle has not been identified within the townland of Courtbrack.
