Moyle Castle vanished before modern memory, leaving only a gate lodge and buried stone beneath Clondalkin. It may have stood where the college entrance cuts through old Moyle Park, watching Boot Road while newer buildings swallowed its walls. The castle did not leave behind a ruin for tourists; it left a hole in the visible town, forcing every passersby to imagine what disappeared.

The exact location of Moyle Castle has not been identified. Ua Broin (1944, 212) has suggested that it was located on the site of the gate lodge into the college (Moyle Castle Park). The Urban Survey of County Dublin recorded that; 'Austin Cooper recorded the presence of another fortified house close to Tully's Castle and Ball (1899, 97) stated that the remains of it could still be distinguished within the modern buildings which then, occupied the site. There is no trace of it today. Eighteenth century maps show the position of Moyle Castle at a point corresponding with the entrance to the College buildings (the former Moyle Park House) on the west side of Boot Road (Ua Broin 1944, 211-12). Built by the Ó Broin (O'Brien) family in the 17th century, Moyle Castle was associated with the development of Moyle Castle Park and is remembered as a historical precursor to the later estate and college buildings in Clondalkin.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
