Cloghaviller Castle vanished before anyone marked its stones, leaving only a decayed shadow in Limerick records. William and Margaret Marshall stood beside twelve cabbins where the castle once bit the earth, but no human hand has pointed to that exact spot since. The place holds its breath, waiting for someone to stop asking whether it exists and start imagining the life that filled its rooms.

The precise location of Cloghaviller Castle within the townland has not been identified. Cloghaviller Castle described by Westropp (1906-7, 187) as following; 'FitzGerald renders it "Clogh a Fiolar," or Eaglestown, in 1827. 1583 Cloughviller, alias Cloughbuddinviller (Des. R., 3). 1587 The head-rent of W. Marshall, of Cloughvillen, granted to Sir E. Fyton. 1657 Clogh Ivillin, decayed castle, W. Marshall (C.S., xxxi., p. 26). 1666 Clogheviller, Clogher or Cloghermillagh, confirmed to A. Ormsby, and 1670 to Rob. Reading under trusts of Earl of Mountrath (Act Sett.). 1703 Ric. Powell, of Cloughviller, purchased estate of King James at Gallbuoly.' The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that William Marshall and Margaret Marshall of Cloghaviller possessed in the townland of Cloghaviller, 'a decayed Castle & 12 Cabbins on it' (Simington 1938, 112).
