What is recorded here
In 1574, Domynick Lynch held a castle on Inishmean, yet no modern hand has since marked its stones. That absence is not a gap but a shape: a room with no walls, waiting for someone to stop measuring and start imagining. The list preserved the name because the name resisted forgetting.
Included in the list of castles in county Galway that was compiled in 1574 is one in the possession of 'Domynick Lynch' on 'Inishmean' (Nolan 1901, 116). It may be the castle depicted on Henry Pelham's 1787 map of county Clare. Not located.
