C. Caretrante may have stood at the southwest edge of Ventry Harbour when Norden mapped Ireland in 1609-1611, but no stone, trench or marker remains for it now. The Trants were already prominent in the area in the 16th century and bought a castle in Dingle in 1565, so a fortress near that harbour would not have been strange. Whatever room, door or guard post once existed there has returned to the coast, leaving only a name and a suggestion of walls.

‘C. Caretrante' which appears on Norden's Map of Ireland 1609-1611 (O'Sullivan Bear, 1903) may refer to a castle situated at the SW side of Ventry Harbour. No trace of any structure survives and the site does not appear on the OS Maps.
