What is recorded here

Nobody knows which field the castle stood in, though it belongs to Castledermot and County Kildare. That absence makes the place harder to dismiss, because a forgotten castle may still be buried beneath a farmyard, a hedge or a children's game. It is not lost in the sense of never having existed. It is lost in the sense that people stopped pointing at it, and the land took back the shape of the stones.

The precise location of the castle, mentioned in the historical literature, is not known (Bradley et al. 1986, vol. 2, 93-4). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy
