What is recorded here

Bohola castle stood beside its own mill and a half-quarter of land when the Strafford Inquisition named it in 1635. It may still be the local Bohola motte, but no clear tower or gate remains visible. The castle may have been a small stronghold, a farmstead with a defensible wall, or a lost hall that the survey merely recorded. What is certain is that Bohola had enough value to be measured, named and remembered.

This castle is listed in the 1635-37 Strafford Inquisition of Co. Mayo: '…the castle of Boholo, and half qr of land there onto belonging, called the half qr of Bocholo, with a mill [MA071-185002-].'
