What is recorded here
Castle is an unclassified castle in Ballypierce, County Limerick, with a possible 16th century reference in the facts supplied. Westropp called its existence doubtful, leaving the place more like a shadow than a building. It may have been a manor, a fort, a mistake or a forgotten home, but the doubt itself belongs to the story.
Despite a possible 16th century reference to a castle in this townland, Westropp considers the existance of such a castle 'doubtful' (Westyropp 1906-7, 233).
