What is recorded here

Ballingowle Castle vanished before human memory, leaving only a gap in the earth south of Ballynagool. It may still breathe beneath Hollywood House, waiting for a hammer or a child’s question to remind it of its own name.
Exact location of Ballingowle Castle, which is listed in 16th and 17th century sources (see Westropp 1906-7, 218), is not known, though Westropp locates it near Hollywood House (ibid.); this house in Ballinvira townland immediately S of Ballynagool. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
Ballynagool Castle was likely built in the 16th or 17th century, possibly by a local Gaelic or Anglo-Irish family, and is remembered primarily through early historical references, though its exact location remains uncertain. It is important as an example of lesser-known medieval or early modern strongholds in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
