Castle in Ballycullen belonged to the Nash family from at least the 16th century, but they rebuilt the same ground as a three-storey country house in 1740. The tripartite fanlighted doorway, hall ceiling plasterwork and joined staircase still mark the house as a proud eighteenth-century residence rather than a ruined fortress. The 1970s restoration brought that much-neglected pride back to life.

A castle held by the Nash family from at least the 16th century; they built a country house on the site in 1740 (Westropp 1906-7, 208). This house is a ‘3 storey eighteenth century house with a tripartite fanlighted doorway … plasterwork of mid-eighteenth century type in hall ceiling; staircase of good joinery with gallery.’ (Bence-Jones 1978, 20).
