Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

A castle in Ballyconra, County Kilkenny, appeared in the Down Survey of 1655-8 as a castle in repair, perhaps occupying the field northeast of Ballyconra House. It may have stood beside an older house already known in that neighbourhood. The exact spot has slipped from notice, leaving behind a ghost of stone and a suggestion that people still lived there when the surveyors came.
There is a castle indicated in Ballyconra townland on the Down Survey map (1655-8) as, 'a Castle in repair'. The Down Survey map (http://downsurvey.tcd.ie/down-survey-maps.php#bm=Galmoy&c=Kilkenny&p=Agharny) suggests that the castle may be in the field immediately NE of Ballyconra house. There is a reference to an older house (KK004-024001-) in the vicinity of Ballyconra House. The precise location of this castle within the townland is unknown.
