Dromoland Castle was built in the 15th century by the O'Brien dynasty, the Kings of Thomond, and later held by the Blake family after the 17th-century land transfers. It is important as a symbol of Gaelic and later Anglo-Irish aristocratic power in the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
