Castle, ringwork in Lahardan Upper stands on a natural hillock above County Tipperary, its thirty-seven-metre circular platform still marked by a steep scarp and a water-logged fosse. A stone-lined causeway cuts the eastern bank, flanked by mortared wall-footings that may have defended the entrance. The views stretch far in every direction, suggesting the builders valued watchfulness as much as protection. Whoever lived there would have seen weather, movement and danger arrive long before anyone else in the valley.

Situated on a natural hillock with extensive views. A raised circular platform (diam. N-S 37m) defined by a scarp (H 1-3m) and a wide flat-bottomed water-logged fosse (Wth 4.5m; D 0.5-1.5m) with a stone-lined causewayed entrance (Wth 3.2m) at E. Evidence of mortared wall-footings protrude from the scarp on either side of the causewayed entrance and are possibly associated with entrance defences.
