Castle of Balquhain wore a grand name while hiding as a quarry and two conjoined buildings in Aberdeenshire. The pit took stone for local work, and the buildings likely served the people digging it. When the quarry grew after 1901, it swallowed most of the structure, leaving only a short wall beside a field boundary. The castle part is a map fantasy; the quarry part is the truth.
