Castle rises in Glenlary pasture beside the stream, its circular motte and northern bailey cut into a cliff edge where scarps and ravine replace built walls. The land itself became the fortress: a raised platform twenty metres across, a larger enclosure beyond, and a nearby boundary stone circle waiting in the grass. People may have stood on that ridge watching water and shadow move through the valley, knowing the ground could hold them back as much as any wall.

In pasture, immediately W Glenlary stream that runs N-S. An enclosure (LI049-098----) lies 140m to the W. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a raised circular-shaped area defined by a scarp. Shown as a circular shaped platform (dims. c. 16m NW-SE; 20m NE-SW) with a possible bailey (dims. c. 27m NW-SE; 40m NE-SW) to N on a cliff-edge location on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch. The bailey area is defined by a scarp from NW-N-E-S-SW, from SW-W-N by a watercourse running NE-SW and at NE and E by scarp of Glenlary ravine, enclosed by a bank in the SW.
