Castle (in Ruins)

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Knockanoura Castle stands in ruins in County Clare, its stones stripped of roof and purpose. It may have sheltered a family, stored grain, or watched a road, but no clear record survives to confirm which. What is left is a hollow shape in the land, waiting for imagination to finish what memory forgot.
See attached document with details from Risteárd Ua Cróinín and Martin Breen, The Castles and Tower-houses of Co. Clare (unpublished report). Uploaded courtesy of R. Ua Cróinín and M. Breen. Date of upload: 11 December 2014

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
