Creevagh North stood on a high rocky mound in 1574, holding Walter Mac Tibbot and his people above the surrounding land. The tower still rises fourteen hundred millimetres from the earth, guarding a bawn where four other buildings once lived. That much height remains because the rock refused to swallow the castle whole.

On high rocky mound, with a commanding view all round. Remains of tower (int. dims. 4m N-S; 5m E-W); H 1.4m) stand in NE sector of irregular-shaped bawn (MA118-090003-). Within bawn are remains of at least four other buildings, defined by low (H 0.3m) foundations. Building (MA118-090004-)in NW of bawn contains part of a blocked up splayed opening on N wall. In SE corner of bawn is tower. Subsidiary or later bawn wall (MA118-090002-) extends further to N and E, much lower and less substantial than main bawn. Contains low sod-covered foundations of a number of buildings. Outside bawn to S and W are possible remains of medieval settlement. Held by Walter Mac Tibbot in 1574 when known as Crigh Castle (Knox 1908, 347). The above description has been derived from D.
