Castle Coolmain was a Mac Carthy Riabhach tower on the east side of Coolmain Bay, its square walls thirty-two feet across and twenty feet high before a house swallowed the ancient stone. When that house stood abandoned near 1870 and later vanished entirely, the castle disappeared with it, leaving no marker for the clan or the bay. What remains is a absent shape in the landscape, remembered only through the measurements written down before the last wall fell.

On E side of Coolmain Bay. According to Fuller (1907, 17) 'old square tower, 32 feet by 28 feet, and about 20 feet in height' was incorporated into house which was abondoned c. 1870. The house has since been demolished and no visible trace of tower. A castle of the Mac Carthy Riabhach clan (Ó Murchadha 1985, 54).
