Castle Hill camp

Castle Hill camp is a Roman fortlet on an Amber Valley ridge, its double earthworks still marking a small square where soldiers watched Ryknild Street. They built timber shelters rather than stone walls, leaving behind fragile pottery, a bronze fibula and a thin layer of lived occupation that disappeared when the camp was abandoned. The site remains a scheduled monument, protected but not automatically open, so the hill keeps its Roman shape while people pass beneath its watch.
