Castle Fraser is a five-storey Z-plan castle near Kemnay, built from 1575 to 1636 on an older tower, and it remains one of the grandest homes of the Castles of Mar. Michael Fraser began the work, John Bell and Thomas Leiper shaped its stone, and later Frasers rebuilt its rooms, gardens and gatehouses until Theodora sold it in 1921. The Pearson family restored it, then gave it to the National Trust for Scotland in 1976. Now its vaulted halls, Regency library and walled garden still hold the shape of a living family house rather than a dead monument.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Fraser as Hammer (stone)(period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Castle Fraser in Scotland was built by the Fraser family, with construction beginning in the 13th century and continued over subsequent centuries. It is important as a historic seat of the Fraser clan and as an example of medieval and later Scottish architecture.
