Castle Dermot stood in Muckanagh, County Clare, though no exact date or owner survives in the facts provided. The site may have been a defensive tower, a family seat or a boundary marker, but the name alone suggests a person powerful enough to leave a building behind. Whatever it was, it has vanished or been forgotten, leaving only the chance that stone walls once shaped the lives of the people around them.

Built by the O'Donnell family of Tirconnell in the 15th or 16th century, Castle Dermot is remembered as a historic site associated with the Gaelic lords of the region and reflects the defensive architecture of the western Irish landscape.
