Castle Cinema, Worcester Place, Swansea, opened in 1913 with an Edwardian frontage built to make moviegoing feel like a palace. It survived a 1927 fire and wartime damage, yet still stands beside the medieval castle with its grand entrance, curved stairs and shadowed auditorium. The building is now at risk of being divided into small units, which would erase the very space that once held crowds in darkness. To preserve it, the answer is not more walls but a use worthy of its height, light and memory.
