Castle Balfour rose in Lisnaskea when Michael Balfour received the land from King James I, creating a long rectangular home with vaulted rooms and gun loops that still stands at the graveyard edge. The building became a local anchor until an arson fire in 1803 killed Phoebe Haire and ended her family’s residence there. Later conservation work preserved the unusual T-shaped remains, keeping visible the Scottish masonry and the older ringfort hidden beneath the demesne.
