Dolforwyn Castle was built by Llywelyn the Great, ruler of Gwynedd, in the early 13th century, around 1220–1230, as part of his efforts to consolidate Welsh control over the Marches. It is remembered as a key strategic stronghold in the struggle between Welsh princes and English lords during the medieval period.
