Castell-Arnallt was the fortified home of Seisyll ap Dyfnwal in Over Gwent until William de Braose ordered its destruction in 1175. Retainers razed the castle while Seisyll sat at a Christmas feast in Abergavenny, killing his son Cadwaladr and taking or killing his wife. The earthworks still mark the loss, even though farm fields have swallowed every stone.
