Carn

On the highest point of a NE-SW ridge in pasture, commanding wide views. Hachured as a rath on the 1842 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Hachured as a mound and labelled ‘Carn’ on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Cairn’ in the RMP (1996). This subcircular hut site (int. diam. 8m; ext. dims. 15m N-S; 12m E-W) is defined by a bank (Wth 2-5m; int. H 0.2m; max. int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.6-1.2m) of earth and stone, with two slabs (H 0.3m) set on edge at the NE marking an inner revetment (H 0.3m). A low modern wall extending NNW-SSE just outside the bank at the W may incorporate part of a possible outer revetment. There are loose stones in the interior.
