Carn

At the W end of a broad E-W hill in pasture within a large multiperiod field system (CL009-059001-), with land falling away S-N and wide views all around (less to E). Hachured and named ‘Carn’ on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Described by Westropp (1901, 289) as a conspicuous and fairly perfect cairn of earth and stones. This circular cairn (10.1m E-W; 10m N-S; H 1.4-1.6m) has quite a flat top (diam. 3-4m), near which some large stones (though not kerbstones) protrude through the sod. Other cashels lie c. 136m to the S (CL009-059030-) and c. 152m to the ENE (CL009-059031-).
