Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin was born in Monaghan, Ireland, on 18 September, 1953. He became the first Sinn Féin deputy elected to Dáil Éireann since 1957 after winning the Cavan-Monaghan seat in 1997. He led his party in the chamber until 2011 and helped shape the negotiations that produced the Good Friday Agreement.
