Eochy's Cairn stands sixty-four metres above the western sky, a vast Neolithic mound of loose stones spanning over one hundred and fifty feet across the Mayo landscape. Tradition claims it marks the burial of Eochaid mac Eirc after the mythical Battle of Moytura, yet no human hands have ever opened its dark interior to verify the story. The untouched stones hold a dead king and forgotten Neolithic builders together, waiting beneath the wind for someone brave enough to ask what they buried.

Located on the E shoulder of Croagh Patrick, overlooking Lough Nacorra to S. Mound (7m E–W; 6m N–S; H 2.5m) of loose stones, oval in plan and domed in profile. Blanket bog and heather encroaches on the E edge of the cairn. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 19 March 2020
