What is recorded here

Thirty metres of quiet cliff, twenty metres of cairn, five hollows on top and one lintel still visible: the edge has been marked twice, once by people and once by survey. The quarry breathes heat and noise against the ancient stone, while the road works of 1874 broke open the mound and left behind either a cist or a contradiction. Westropp refused the cist years later, perhaps because it had vanished or because memory sharpened what the men had missed. The preservation order came in 1987, not to praise the cairn but to stop the next forgetful machine swallowing the difference.

Situated near the SE end of a steep rocky hill and within a large field system (CL010-064001-). Listed as ‘Cairn’ in the RMP (1996). On inspection in 1999 this was found to be a small cairn (diam. 1.8m; H 1m) of apparently modern construction. Other similar cairns lie in the next field to the S.
