What is recorded here

Folach na Marbh is an oval cairn beside the old mountain track from Glin North to Mullaghveal, reputedly marking where someone died. Passers-by still add a stone, perhaps keeping that unknown death company instead of forgetting it. The mountains may have taken a traveller, a herdsman or a child, but the cairn still receives their stones and answers without naming the victim.
Folach na Marbh: An oval cairn of stones located beside the old trackway which leads over the mountains from Glin North to Mullaghveal. It measures 6.5m x 6.2m x c. 1.5m in height and reputedly marks the spot where some person died (An Seabhac 1939, 232). It is the local custom for passers-by to add a stone to the cairn. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 229. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 4 August 2013
