What is recorded here

Cairn, Ballyneillan, Co. Clare is a flat-topped stone mound about twenty metres across, marked by five hollows on its surface and an unresolved question about whether a burial chamber still lies beneath them. Road works in 1874 and 1875 exposed at least two sets of human remains, yet a later account denied that a cist had appeared at all. That contradiction leaves the cairn holding both memories at once: loss recorded and shape refused.

Westropp (1899, 381) refers to two nameless cairns on what he calls ‘Turlough and Knockycallanan mountain’. He notes that one is on the summit (CL006-017002-).
