What is recorded here
Cairn is a cairn, unclassified in Knocknarea South, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies the summit of Knocknarae Mountain 75m south of Maeve’s Cairn, appearing as a low oval grass-covered rise 4.5m north-south and 4m east-west. Fragmentary limestone builds most of the structure, while a white quartzite block marks the eastern perimeter. The site remains a National Monument in state ownership.
On the summit of Knocknarae Mountain, located 75m S of a large passage tomb, known as Maeve’s Cairn (MA014-076003-). There is a possible passage tomb (MA014-076007-) 8m to NNE, and a cairn (MA014-076009-) 26m to SE.
This is evident as a low, oval grass-covered rise (4.5m N−S; 4m E−W; 0.25m), which appears to be composed primarily of fragmentary limestone. It is defined on its perimeter by a barely discernible fosse. A block of white quartzite (0.35m x 0.15m), which does not occur naturally on Knocknarae, is located on the perimeter at E. (Bergh 1995, 241, site 8). This is a National Monument (No. 153) in state ownership.

A Neolithic cairn, likely dating to the early to middle Bronze Age, associated with a broader ritual landscape on Knocknarea Mountain. Its proximity to Maeve’s Cairn and other tombs suggests it is part of a significant funerary and ceremonial complex.
